Tagline: Learn the language. Not the textbook version.
What it is:
Local Lingo is a hyper-regional language-learning platform focused on dialects, slang, and cultural context โ the stuff Duolingo will never teach you but that locals notice immediately.
The problem:
Standard language apps teach you to speak like a formal news anchor. But real communication happens in dialects, colloquialisms, and culturally loaded phrases. A Bengali speaker from Kolkata sounds nothing like one from Dhaka. A Hindi learner in Mumbai needs a completely different toolkit than one in Delhi.
What we're building:
- Region-specific dialect tracks (not just "Hindi" โ Banarasi, Awadhi, Bambaiya)
- Native speaker audio recorded in actual neighbourhoods, not studios
- Cultural context cards explaining why a phrase means what it means
- Community correction layer โ locals flag unnatural or outdated usage in real time
Who it's for:
Migrants, expats, travellers, diaspora reconnecting with roots, and language enthusiasts who want to sound genuinely local.
Looking for: Linguists, regional content creators, audio contributors, developers, early learners

Appraisal score
LocalLingo addresses a significant gap in language learning by focusing on hyper-regional dialects and cultural nuances, which existing platforms largely ignore. While the concept is strong and highly unique, the execution will require substantial effort in content creation and community management to ensure accuracy and breadth.
