The problem: Skilled tradespeople — electricians, machinists, carpenters, glassblowers, watchmakers — are retiring faster than their expertise is being passed on. Trade schools teach the generic version of a craft, not the specific techniques a master picked up over a 40-year career. Once someone retires without an apprentice, that knowledge doesn't get written down anywhere — it just disappears.
The solution: PassItOn is a matching platform. Retiring or semi-retired tradespeople list their craft, location, and what they're willing to teach. Apprentices browse and request mentorship — in person locally, or remotely for knowledge that doesn't require hands-on supervision. Every mentorship session gets logged into a short "knowledge capsule" (notes, photos, short video), so the platform builds a growing, searchable archive of real trade knowledge as a side effect of the matching itself — not just one mentor helping one apprentice, but a record that outlives both of them.
How it works:

A tradesperson creates a profile: craft, region, years of experience, what they want to teach
Apprentices search by craft/region and request mentorship
Each session is logged as a short knowledge capsule — building a public archive over time
Trade associations or community colleges can endorse profiles for credibility

Who it's for: Retiring tradespeople who want their decades of skill to matter and not vanish with them; young people entering a trade with no family or community connection to a mentor; trade schools wanting real supplementary material beyond textbook curriculum.
What I'm looking for: A product/community lead to design the matching and credibility system, a developer for the platform, and ideally someone connected to a trade association or union for a v1 pilot group.
