Bridge Forward
A step-by-step reentry map helping people leaving incarceration find housing, ID, work, and a mentor in their city — starting day one.
Posted by Sparsh Taneja
The problem: People leaving incarceration are usually given a bus ticket and nothing else. No ID, no address for job applications, often no bank account, no map of which local programs actually accept their situation. The first 72 hours decide a lot — and there's no single resource that lays out what to do, in order, for the specific city someone's landing in. Generic "reentry resource" PDFs exist but they're outdated, not localized, and not built for someone who may not have a smartphone, an address, or anyone to call.
The solution: Bridge Forward is a localized, step-by-step reentry checklist plus a directory of verified local resources — ID/document replacement offices, reentry-friendly housing, employers who hire people with records, and peer mentors who've been through it themselves. Someone enters their city and gets an ordered plan for the first week, first month, and first 90 days, with real contact info instead of a wall of links.
How it works:
Enter your city/region
Get a day-1 / week-1 / month-1 checklist specific to that area
Browse a directory of verified local resources (housing, ID, jobs, legal aid) tagged by what they actually accept
Optionally get matched with a peer mentor — someone who has navigated reentry in that same city before
Who it's for: People recently released from incarceration; their families trying to help from outside; reentry nonprofits who currently do this resource-matching by hand, one person at a time.
What I'm looking for: A community/partnerships lead to start building verified local resource lists city by city, a developer for the platform, and ideally someone with reentry program experience to sanity-check the checklist logic.
Roles
- Community/partnerships lead (resource verification)
- Full-stack developer
- Reentry program advisor

Bridge Forward addresses a critical, unmet need for localized, step-by-step reentry support for individuals leaving incarceration. While generic resources exist, this idea's focus on verified, city-specific checklists and direct contact information offers a significant improvement. Its success hinges on the meticulous development of local resource networks and a user-friendly platform.
